TOP's creation
The site's first boss, know as SnowLady4Ever, was the translator of the Crash Bandicoot Manga (yes, it does exist). Originally it was on deviantART, and was feautured in it's group's dA account, but some person told that s/he had sent dA a report, since it was illegally uploaded. Fierce, (the person who bought the comic, and who was sending Snowie the comic be translated, and who also used to upload it there,) took the comic down, since there was a plan of Snowie making a site for the comic, with FreeWebs.
FreeWebs sucked. You have bandwidth limit, and all kinds of other limits, so she couldn't upload the comic in picture form, so she made a Megaupload account and added the download links to the site. But it turned out that Fierce had made a deal with Crash Mania, and was going to let Crash Mania host the comic. Because of that, Snowie deleted the site, because, there was no need for the site anymore.
After that, she still had her account on FreeWebs, and nothing to do with it. The videos Snowie used to make weren't really getting attention on Blip.tv, and she had been wanting to make a site where she could host her videos, and maybe some other people's too. That idea grew into "Hey! I could make a shitty TGWTG clone! 8U", and Snowie asked the Goth for his opinion, and if he would want to join. He liked the idea, and she was pretty sure about making the site, which was originally called "The Wonderland Project" (because Snowie loved Alice in Wonderland).
But she didn't want to make a site with just two people. So she went on YouTube and asked B if he would join the club, since he was the only reviewer with any kind of talent on YouTube Snowie was aware of back then. He got exited by the idea too. Back then Snowie was still wondering if there could be a better name for the site, so she asked B's opinion on the name. Snowie wanted the name to have "Project" in it, no matter what. He wanted it to have "Otaku" in it. So The Otaku Project got it's name. (By the way, this is where Snowie would like to point out that she wished that "TOP" would be read like the word "top" instead of "T.O.P.")
So she started making the site on FreeWebs, but then she realized there was a page limit which she really hadn't noticed earlier. The Goth thankfully introduced her to Weebly, which has no limits to anything. And so TOP was made, and launched on 1st of January.

A Word from the Goth:
In a country where Scenesters went from being a tiny social division of teenaged girls to having entire portions of the mainstream media dedicated to their favorite book series, I, James “The Goth” Grayson, took a stand to fight against whatever weapons of harmlessness got sent against us.
I’m just an ordinary nerd who makes videos for the people of the internet. While my Nerditude is mighty, Randy “The Jock” Shaw and George “The Techy” Ferdinand are here to help, too, and we need all assistance we can get to go fight The Scene Machine!
But, first, let’s do some stupid stuff.
In The Goth Talks, I give my honest opinions on various things like music, television, and things of nerdy hobbies.
In The Goth Reviews, I give a standard internet review of something that’s supposed to be enjoyable for people between ages 14 and 19, but turn out sucking for all age-ranges.
In Somewhat Controversial Topics, I discuss some topics that generally only spark into flame wars. Not in my house, they don’t.
Help The Otaku Project fight the good fight and destroy The Scene Machine and her minions!

A Word from B:
The story of B the Trivial Critic is an epic of trials and tribulations, struggling against the odds, and triumphing over the forces of darkness. In a land where the internet was dominated by talentless and unfunny hacks, Spoony the god of the vast interwebs visited B the Trivial Critic in a dream, a vision if you will. He said, " B I bestow upon you, the task of going to the internet and pwning all the hacks." So B strapped on his coat and with his camera in tow he set out on his quest to save the internet.
Okay not really, here's how it goes; some nerd in Michigan had a camera, a computer, and no job. Plus he had seen a lot of anime, zombie flicks, and videos by Noah "the Spoony One" Antwiler, so he got the bright idea to do it himself and well, the rest is history. Then about after a year of making videos, SnowLady4Ever approached me and asked me to help get start the Otaku Project
Okay so let's get on with it just remember a few, do everything I say and no asking stupid questions. Here's how my show runs; in B reviews... I go and review anime and zombie movies. In the Romero Retrospective I chronologically review George Romero's Living Dead series as well as analyze them by how they represent their time and what they're saying (it's like JD's Rise and Fall of Sonic the Hedgehog, but gorier). In my Top 13 lists... well that one's kind of self explanatory. And occasionally I contribute a blog, make a cameo for my buddies on TOP, or even do a crossover.
Okay. One more, just one: is this world protected? You're not the first to have come here. Oh, there have been so many. And what you've got to ask is, what happened to them? Hello. I'm the Doctor. Basically. Run.
Yeah I'm also prone to getting possessed by Matt Smith at random moments. Yeah, it's cool, bow ties are cool.

A Word from BS:
Hey there, they call me Bionic Slime: your online voice for reviews of your choice and I present to you, BS Reviews (That's BS for Bionic Slime and nothing else!)
I'm a geek, nerd, anime nut, anime enthusiast, call me what you want but I love geeky stuff and I love to talk about geeky stuff. My main interests lie in reviewing anime, watching movies, reading comics, watching TV, Buffy the vampire slayer, Godzilla, Batman and Dragon Ball Z. I'm a devout online reviewer who loves to share his thoughts and views with others, but don't expect any restraint or hesitance when it comes to voicing my opinions.
I give you my honest opinion whether you agree with me or not, and that's just how I am. I hope you enjoy my reviews, my words, and my work!

A Word from LB:
I'm relatively new to the anime reviewing scene; I made my first video, Lava Buster #1: Afro Samurai in mid Dec-2010, and have been making anime reviews ever since. I'm rather harsh and negative (but always fair and honest) with all my videos, and I mainly focus on the writing aspects (plot/setting/characters/development/tension/consistency/mechanics/etc) of said series (because I am a writer, currently working on one of my novels).
I will delve into animation, voice acting, music, and other areas (once in a while) if they're worth mentioning (and able to enhance the overall experience for the viewer, as with my Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence video praising the voice acting). While the majority of my reviews are aimed at anime movies/series, I will also review non-anime (in other words, animated movies made outside of Japan...like my review of Renaissance, the 2006 French sci-fi noir film) installments, and even online series (maybe in the future). With every video, I aim to improve my craft, talent, and delivery, because to me, it is a trial-and-error process where I'm always learning.

A Word from JD:
Hello and good evening fellow otaku people, this is JD of Nash Inc Reviews, and sometimes joined by the Camera Guy......name unknown.
So you wanna know whats different about this show to everyone else, well not only do I provide all manners of reviews but I also do a complete episode-by-episode of the horrid "IKKITOUSEN REVIEW", a look at everything sonic in "THE RISE AND FALL OF SONIC THE HEDGEHOG" and random little videos just to entertain you....because I like ya.
You've come to the right site for all the best and worse (and the bits inbetween) of anime, games, movies and TV shows.

A Word from MM:
I welcome yee, fellow reader. Welcome to my little section.
My name is Martin Mehawk and as an Otaku, Anime and Manga naturally play a huge role in my life.
I started watching Internet Celebrities tearing crap apart over three years ago, I practically grew up with them. As the years and months passed I began to think about a concept for my own little online show, the end result (after a long process of polishing) is what you now know as "MangaView".
As you might've noticed, English isn't my mothertongue, so Spoony had to fill in lack of vocabulary, grammar and such. Yes, every single word I know stems from online reviewers. That makes my accent unique on the entire planet, my own, personal, wierd and twisted take on the English language. Can you see through it and uncover my nationality? I doubt it. ;)
MangaView is a parody of not only the stuff that gets reviewed in it, but also reviewers and reviews themselves. Not everything I say reflects my own opinion, MangaView is mainly supposed to entertain. Still, I hate dishonesty, so you can rest assured that I will never lie, I might exaggerate a little from time to time, though.^^
I also do videos of the sort of "5 Panel Manga" (popular manga summarized in an entertaining way) and a whole lot of other special and/or interesting ideas for videos that I might have. All share at least one thing, though: They're supposed to entertain YOU. Farewell, fellow reader and enjoy your stay here at TOP.

A Word from Squeaks:
I was introduced to anime (like many), through a combination of Saturday morning cartoons and programs like Toonami and Adult Swim. I grew up with shows like Pokemon, Dragon Ball Z, YuYu Hakusho, and Digimon. I eventually began to gravitate away from shonen, but didn't actually decide on what genres I preferred until a few years ago. I eventually began to focus primarily on psychological thrillers, slice of life, and occult/paranormal anime. Shows like Welcome to the NHK, Paranoia Agent, and Mushishi. I've studied literature, psychology, film production, and acting. I hope to use my knowledge to provide a unique perspective to classic and contemporary pieces.

For game reviews I review the best and the worst and the old and the recent of all video games, for Animation Dumbination I take a look at the worst of the worst hand-drawn animated films and for Arcade Radio I discuss with fellow gamers on the latest gaming news, debate, and all other fun stuff that can be heard through Arcade Radio

A Word from Cubix:
Cubix is an over excitable, dapper young man, who is occasionally quite sincere and sarcastic. He reviews flash games and is an avid casual gamer, if that makes sense. The only game he plays competitively is Super Smash Brothers Brawl, a game in which he receives challenges from, and makes stakes depending on who wins. His only known powers are being able to change the pitch of his voice and to be able to make montages at will. Also hates girly things, loves explosions, and when he can't figure out the story to a game, generally makes one up.

A Word from JJ:
Greetings internets. I'm JJ, a sad lonely individual who has no life whatsoever. I should probably go outside one of these days, but in the meantime, or when I'm not too lazy, I make videos where I ramble on about video games, movies, anime and other awesome geeky goodness (which is pretty much all I do IRL as well). I'm passionate about a lot of things in relations to art and technology as well as nerd and geek culture. Whether it's Asian or Western, realistic or insane, bad-ass and manly or cute and girly, I consider my tastes to be quite diverse. Example: Halo and Assassin's Creed are some of my favourite game franchises of all time. I'm also a Brony who loves moe anime and visual novels. Despite how much time I spend alone in my room, I'm actually quite friendly and well mannered... just a bit weird. If you don't mind me getting a little too loud and carried away at times then please don't hesitate to say hi. :)

A Word from Random Anime Viewer:
I'm the Random Anime Viewer. As you can tell by the name I love to watch anime. I'll watch pretty much anything (within reason) and will write about what I see. I also love to play video games. I have been playing games for the vast majority of my life. I have been an avid fan of anime for about 6 years now and in that time I have seen alot of interesting things. Whenever a new anime season starts I will make it a point to watch atleast one episode of each new show. I usually end up finishing each show but in some cases there are a few casualties who don't quite reach the finish line. Having said that there are times when I'll go back once a show has finished airing and watch it all in a marathon. That is harder to do nowadays due to life commitments. Although they say that "no matter what life throws at you, you should always take time out and have fun doing what you love". I love watching anime and playing video games. They also say "you should write about what you know". I think I know abit about anime and video games. So I can have fun watching anime and playing video games and then I can write about them. So I've decided to do so. One last thing. Does anyone know who "they" is?

A Word from AFG:
Anti-Fangirl's not so epic story continues to take place in the land of cheese and beer, also known as Wisconsin. It mainly features not only herself but her mom, dad, sister Ann, and cats, Jack and Jasmine. Some of her passions include smartly told stories, intellectual challenges, macadamia nut cookies, and not long walks on the beach. Her main quest is to earn her master's in anthropology. To achieve such a goal, she must not only go to class and write dozens of papers but go to many anime conventions, since that is what her master's thesis is about. Anime culture is endlessly fascinating to the Anti-Fangirl and she loves to share her thoughts on anime, it's culture, and how it effects people all around the world.

The Sidekicks
Here are the sidekicks, in the following order; the Jock, the Techy, Ernest, the Bookworm and the Scene Machine (Goth), Tracy Zero (B), and Steve the Camera Guy (JD). Also the Keyboard Warrior and Editor (Cubix) exist, however they don't have their own places on this list for unexplained reasons.
"Once an irreplacable sidekick to The Goth, Randy "The Jock" Shaw has dedicated his life to going through great lengths in order to inconvenience The Goth in any way. His cleverness and evil plans are often no match for The Goth's passive-disinterest, but there will come a day when The Jock will get to appear in at least one single video."
"Ernest Masterman is The Goth's main homie and is often misunderstood due to his nerdy voice and overreactions to things. If the Goth ever finds himself in a pinch, Ernest is happy to help out in a way that may or may not have good results."
"The Scene Machine has heard all of your arguments of why her favorite things are bad, and she's heard every single comment out of you haters. She just got distracted too quickly to think about what any of your words meant."
"He's the camera guy for JD. For some reason people have a hard time remembering him."
|
"George "The Techy" Ferdinand is The Goth's subservient and mellow friend. The Goth tends to use him as a target for all his strange questions and plans."
"Caronline "The Bookworm" Litaneere mysteriously joined up to help The Goth produce videos, yet never appears in any of his actual reviews. Some speculate that she is just The Techy from an alternate universe opened up by The Jock's wormhole."
"B's co-host/ editor for his scripts. What, you didn't know B sucked at writing?" |
