Boss Switch and a Long Goodbye! 03/03/2012
It has been over a year since The Otaku Project was created. A whole year. The site has come a long way, from looking like shit, to looking decent-ish. We've gotten more members, and don't seem so amateur-ish anymore. TOP is my priority. For me, nothing matters more than this site, and my "underlings". Originally TOP was just supposed to be a way to get my videos and reviews more attention, and give other people the attention they deserved, but that changed slowly by time, to me just wanting my "underlings" to get more attention. They're my friends. They're my priority. This is why I have to leave. Well, one of the many many many many many many MANY reasons to why I have to quit. Really, there's mountains of reasons for me to go, but I'm not here to tell you about those reasons, and even if I did, once I got started, I would never end, just because there are just that many reasons, most of which not even my dearest friends know of, since some of them are very personal. So, who is the new owner and boss of TOP? It is of course, James the Goth Grayson. Why him? He is the only person who I would ever entrust the site to, for many reasons. I think the Goth is trustworthy, and can handle taking care of the site no matter how much shit is going on in his life. And of course, because this is, well, was my site, I have a vision to how it should be. I am fairly sure, than even though the Goth will change the site a lot, in the end, I am sure that TOP won't become something I never wanted it to become, as long as the Goth rules over it. Some slight changes have been made to TOP's looks, everything that's been missing has been added. With that said, thank you for the past year, you, who have been following the site. Thank you for your support, and I hope, that this year, what ever happens to the site, it will make it bigger, better, stronger, and more beautiful. First, lets start with welcoming our new members; Mix Critic, our second female reviewer. Cubix, our first guy who does only game-related stuff! JJ, poor bastard who has been waiting for me to let him join before 2.0 was launched! The Random Anime Viewer, our second article writer, and the Anti-Fangirl. She ain't any fangirl. Now if you're wondering that can you still join TOP, since I have said that our maxium is 15 members; yes! We will be taken more applications, but you'll have to wait till January until that will happen. Now then, quick notes: most of the work was left for last minute, SO a lot of Anti-Fangirl's reviews are missing, and I will add those soon. Also, as you should be able to notice, there is no Front Page picture. Again, it's late. That will be coming soon too. Also Cubix's sidekicks are missing. Also new members' request rules are missing too. Just realised that. Silly me. And as you can see, CHRISTMAS SKIN! Just like Halloween skin, this will be used only in December. In January, we're going back to the good old 2.0 c: Though unlike the Halloween skin, this theme the Info Boxes haven't been changed. But yeah, these are the updates for now. SO YEAH, Christmas is coming closer, and so is our anniversary. Of course, Christmas means TOP Christmas Skin for December. The new members will be added on December 1st, of course. So you won't be hearing of them any earlier. But now, to more serious business. For the love of god, go and watch the video on the front page, and once you've watched it, vote against that bill. If you don't, TOP, among thousands of other sites might end up getting taken down, not to mention, all of the members going to jail. The bill, as far as I understood, makes drawing fanart of copyrighted characters illegal. That bill is evil, and the bad kind of evil. Not the good kind of evil like TOP, the bad kind of evil. HELLO AND WELCOME, this is The Otaku Project's HALLOWEEN SKIN! Enjoy it, since this look will be kept all they way till Halloween, but after that, in November, we're going right back to 2.0! Now I was supposed to have this done yesterday, but I got into some trouble. I was drawing the Front Page picture in the late evening, which was pretty much the last thing missing, and I was thinking that I would launch the Halloween skin early and add the Front Page picture today once I finished it, but my computer started playing around. It's been lagging like hell in the evenings lately, and I have no idea why, but anyways. The computer was being such an ass that I wasn't able to do jack really, at least not on Firefox, which was frozen for over 15 minutes. And it would freeze for five minutes every time I moved from one page to another. So yeah, when the freezing time got to 15, I just gave up and went to sleep, since I wasn't able to launch the Halloween skin even if I wanted. Sorry about the delay. Sorry for not updating since 2.0 got published, been busy. Now then, it seems that a lot of people would like to join TOP, and I am actally very pleased with that. I've gotten a crap ton of messages from people telling that they want to join. How many? 5-7, haven't counted. Anyways, this brings up one thing which I hadn't thought about earlier. How many members will we take. Now, I don't want TOP to become flooded with members like TGWTG, since that not only scares people away from the site, but also having to take care of 30 people's videos would be a pain in the ass. So I decided that there will be a limit to members. We won't be taking more than 15 members, and so far we have 7 members, so 8 more members and we are done taking members. Of course if it would happen that someone wants to leave for some reason, a new spot will open. Send yer applications while you can! I will stop taking in applications on Halloween (unless there are still open spots), and the best people will get to TOP before the end of November (assuming I won't get too busy and there has been enough applications) -Snowie BTW; if you are evil, the chances for you to join the Dark Side are w 2.0 FINALLY. 09/08/2011
So yes, as you should be able to tell, The Otaku Project has been updated into it's new form which is know as 2.0! I don't have much to comment on 2.0 really. It's finally done. As for other new things, we have a new member! Squeaks! Our very first article writer, who also tends to write stuff about video games! Please, go read his articles! I know there's only two of them here currently, but hey, it's better than nothing. Also, I added the Gallery. That page will basicly have anything old which is no longer being used. More description on what Gallery has in, well, the Gallery page. I will also introduce you something new; The Monthly Front Page Picture. It basicly means that each month I will draw a new picture for the front page. Y'know, just to keep the front page, kind of, fresh. And finally, I will ask you to go and see the About Us page, and go trough the entire page. Because my god that page made updating this site so goddamn troublesome. Now excuse me, I shall go and watch the Basket Case review. -Snowie Change of plans again. I was going to update the site and add new videos when Goth's next review would come out, but, well, change of plans. Like you should have noticed, the comment sections in all video pages has died- all of the comments along with the section itself, have disapeared entirely. I don't know why, but it just has. So, I picked Disqus to fix this problem. For those who don't know, Disqus is the comment thingie Blip and Spoony (for example) use, so yeah, this should be a trust worthy comment thingie. But, Disqus had to be instealled, and what that means, is that a code had to be added into the site's coding, and since once 2.0 will be launced, this version won't be used anymore, so the code is only in 2.0's version. So, it shouldn't work in this version of the site. Right now, I need to re-add Disqus's comment section into each video page one by one, which will be a lot of work. I want to make sure that I don't accidentally launch 2.0 while working, so I won't update the site until the launch of 2.0. Good news, how ever, are that I might've gotten BS's character design right now (not sure on the moment, he hasn't replied yet), and if so, well, his character will be finished and I will get to work on the rest of the Info Boxes too, and other crap. 2.0 won't be finished by the end of this month, but I will launch it before I get forced back to school again, since when that happens, I won't have time at all. The site is currently not being updated, and here is the full explanation for it; I need to draw the new Info Boxes. For Bionic Slime, I will draw him a new character, since I hate the old one. Problem is that the one design I had in my mind wasn't good, and BS wants me to do something entirely different. And I am entirely out of inspiration. So yeah, major artblock. And the artblock is makes me want to raeg quit everything- I just don't want to work on anything. ANYTHING. And I know, it's a horrible "excuse", but I also need to remind that it's boiling hot in here for some odd reason, and there are black beetles everywhere. Oh, have I mentioned that I am afraid of all bugs- even flies? So yeah, STRESS FTW. I won't be updating the site on a reqular basis for now- next time you see new videos here is when the Goth's next review comes out (why his review? Because we've been waiting for it for 15 years goddammit, that review is on the site the same second it pops up on YouTube). But until then, no updates. When is 2.0 launching? My current deadline is the last day of July, but if I don't get that spark of inspiration to get me back on tracks with my work, 2.0 will be delayed. OTL Updates on 2.0 16/06/2011
Getting the update out is going to take a while, at earliest, you'll get to see it around 30th of June, at latest around 30th of July. No promises. If you want to know what needs to be done before you get to see the site in a new form, well, all I can say is this; I have to draw a lot, and while it does depend on what I'm drawing and the amount of detail etc, it usually takes me 5-7 hours to draw a picture. Again depends on what I am drawing. And right now, if one picture takes 5 hours to draw, then I have over 30 hours of work to take care of, just with the drawing. So yeah, the way till 2.0 is long. Especially since I tend to work on things when I feel like it. And right now I want to take care of the remaining 20% of Just Cause 2. So I *really* don't feel like drawing. Alright, in my previous post I said that I might have to stop updating the site if I want to make some changes to the site, which I can't show to you yet, and which would be viewable whn I have to update the site every time a new video pops up (/jourunal entry). Problem solved. The page which would cause the situation abive ti gaooeb would be the About Us page. But of course, that page isn't that important. SO. I can just hide it! 8U So if you're wondering where the About Us page has disapeared to, well, it's being updated, and you won't be able to see it until 2.0. So remember to check it then! |
